That must have really hurt!
I got mine done about 2 years ago. They pierced it with a needle, not a gun.
They pierce it on a different angle with a needle than with a gun, so in mine I use hooks.
I have known people that got theirs done with a gun and have to stick with using studs.. or ones with a back that needs to be put on.
They heal VERY quickly. If you haven't got anything in it now it will have healed within hours. A few weeks after getting mine done it fell out when I wasn't able to think until about 12 hours later. It had healed and I had to repierce through the hole. When I say healed I mean the inside. It will look like there is a hole right through from the outside, but there isn't. Another time after I had had it for at least a year it fell out in my sleep and even after only 4 or 5 hours it was already a little closed over.
You should use dilute Dettol, or some other antiseptic.
Mine has only been infected once and that was after it should have been completely healed.. but it was in the cooler months so I may have had a cold, which wouldn't help. You need to apply antiseptic on the inside and out at least once or twice per day for about three weeks.
I can't think of anything else.
Just keep it clean and sterile and it should be fine now.
Good luck with it.
