Try talking to your school counselor or talking and keeping a journal of your thoughts. I have low-self- esteem most do but what youve gotta keep telling yourself is that Whenever you learn to accept your others will join in its true to. You cant just poof get over it...if you ever go to a counselors office make sure you never get on paxil or something that starts with a w *thinks* ill get back to you on the name its extremly addictrive and has some pretty intense side-effects
Good luck

Have you tried talking to a school counciler? That's something you should probably consider.

The counciler is only there for putting people on the right academic track...and anyway I've tried to talk to her but she is always busy when I go and she never answers my emails...

I have a journal...I just don't post in it much and when I do I just get madder and stuff and cry...

Re: I need help...help me?

Try thinking long term and make longterm goals, when things get crappy I usually just tell myself to tough it out because it will make things better in the long run. If life was always happy you'd get bored of it pretty quick, sometimes you have to go through really rough spells to develope yoursekf as a better person in the long run [character building skills], and these rough spells can last days to years sometimes, its not fair but its part of life and growing up, so try to put up with the troubled times and do what you need to do to ensure yourself a succesful future by focusing on your education. Just because things suck now doesn't mean they always will be, maybe try finding some older role models, people in their early or mid 20s and ask them for advice on how to get through teen years. Um, as for cutting,... thats bad, not sure how to get rid of that because I think it could be an addiction, try finding a hobby or enforce some will power next time you have to urge to cut.

Re: I need help...help me?

being someone whos had simliar problems as you... i'm not sure if i can really help, because my situation is different... but i can completely relate...
if the school counselour isn't helping you [and yes, i know, sometimes they really suck sometimes...] but htey are there to help... try the school nurse... or even a trusted teacher or adult figure...
paxil isn't the best for teens... but there are other medications out there, and if you can see a doctor, they might beable to give you some samples and see if something will help you out... and then you can try to go from there...
-i was the same way, i was slitghy ocd, suffered from depression and anxiety... and i too, was a cutter... --- i had been on paxil cr, which helped for a time esp. with panic attacks, but my bf noticed after a while, i began to sink back down... once suicidal thoughts came back... i cut off completely... it was too much... medications aren't alway sthe answer... if there is a way you can see consouling or therapy, do it... sometimes there are clinics that are easy on teh wallet and even free in some situations...
as for journaling... i don't write the "normal" things... i write down specific incidents and how i reacted... then later, try to break them down and find out waht set me off... it's helped me a bit... esp with stopping cutting... i would write down what triggered me and how i felt... later i'd look back at it and figure out ways to tell when something might trigger me... and come up with ways to keep myself busy until the urge passed... i've been si free for a month and two weeks now...
and ftr, cutting is not really an addiciton persay... it's more of a coping mechanism, many people don't recieve the positive attention and coping skills needed when they are growing up....

in anycase, i hope you can find what you are looking for, and that everything turns out... i know sometimes life seems like it sucks... but trust me... days will get better with time... the teens are always tough... and even though i'm approaching the end of my teens... it's still tough... it always will be... but life will soon look up... soon i'll have control... and even though you don't have complete control yet... you can control somethings... espeically if they are thoughts and feelings... things taht are you...
...take care...

It depends on the counciler. I know my school's guy wouldn't tell the parents without permisison from the student.

This is hard to say but I have noticed when I was in High school that my counsiler was the same. She didn't really care about the kids or what there thoughts were. It seemed she was there to make it look like she tried to make an attempted to help.

You may want to try an outside source like a close teacher or close friend. Somtime they can provide great feedback or just a greak ear when you need one.

eightball is right.... but you dont have to see just one school sounselor you can go to any of them. I never spoke to my designated counselor because she was the same way!! Instead I chose another counselor that I knewI could trust.... also if your parents know already then it wouldnt really matter if the counselor told them right.... I think you should try someone in your school that is an adult mostly because they can help you get the help you need even if you cant afford it. Also if you are religious I would consider talking to you bishop or pastor (sp?) or whomever because they too can get you help through your church even if you cant afford it!! Please be safe and know you can post here and we will listen anytime you wish!!

Hugs

Re: I need help...help me?

Talk to a school councler. If you tell them everything, they might be able to get you to a therapist for free. than again, they can be complete *****s and get you in a hospital. I'm kind of exactly like you..and it sucks. I was put in one of those hospitals where they watch you like mice and junk..it was awful. And it didn't help either. What I basically did was go online all of the time and tried to avoid the real world. and for the most part, it's helped kinda. but that's not exactly what to do..um..You must have friends. Talk to them, get their advice, listen to music. Try to get an instrument..playing music or singing is a good hobby. Whenever you're sad, don't cut, but write your feelings in a poem or song. And try to write music to it and make songs. uhhh. but try to be happy as much as you can, you know.. donnnnnn't cut.

Re: I need help...help me?

Hi. *Hugs* I actually have many of the same illnesses that you do -- obsessive-compulsive disorder (ocd), depression, social anxiety. I also have panic disorder. I take Prozac Weekly (an SSRI -- serotonin reuptake inhibitor) 3x a week. SSRI medications, by the way, help the brain to reuptake serotonin (a neurotransmitter) at the right time. Serotonin is supposed to play a role in a lot of anxiety disorders including ocd.

It helps me handle my obsessive thoughts a lot easier. I'd also received cognitive-behavioral therapy from a specialist in ocd/anxiety disorders for the ocd symptoms. That type of therapy helps the person to control their behavior in relation to their own thoughts. It helped me to handle my obsessive-compulsive symptoms better.

You may be able to go to your local library and borrow a couple books on ocd (until you find a therapist) including "Stop Obsessing!" by Edna Foa, and "Brainlock" by Jeffrey Schwartz. Both books include cognitive-behavioral techniques. Perhaps you may be able to find some local support groups for any of the difficulties that you're dealing with. They are usually free, and at least you will perhaps not feel so alone. They have support groups for everything these days, even for social anxiety.

Have you thought of talking to the school social worker about your current problems? He or she is part of a team of people (the child study team) that evaluates students (for free) educationally and psychologically, when the student is having difficulty in school, regardless of the reason. The team of people usually includes a school psychologist, learning disabilities consultant, and psychiatrist. Perhaps you can get support that way, and they may be able to refer you to a therapist who at least works on a sliding scale (one pays according to family's income). Wishing you the best :-)

Re: I need help...help me?

u need to start believing in yourself. you dont need to cut anymore. you do this because you probably dont feel loved and involved at school. its an excellent idea to keep a journal and you should write in it everyday about 30 min before you go to bed. tell what you did today and how you feel. if you start to cry thats ok, as for what i know about why people that cut, they cut to see the blood drain from them, like its their aggrivation, and stress, everything going wrong with them, its like its in the blood and it just flows out. well when you cry that can be the aggrivation and stress that flows out. try to take more positive approches. get involved in a club and sports to take your time and make friends. just remember things will get better, dont give up and keep your head high. you dont need to cut to make things better.

good luck keep us posted
