Can anyone help me out?

Okay, well, heres the deal.Last night my g/f told me that her parenting teacher told her that marijuana use by a guy can be stored in their fat cells, and then transferred to the female through their *** and cause an unhealthy baby.Because of that she told me that if i don't quit then our relationship is over. We've been together for 1 and 1/2 years now,and i really love her. So,to see if this was true or not,i looked online for some research on it.All i found though was that it MAY cause a guy to be infertile, but it's not always the cause. And,that guys who have smoked weed do produce healthy children.

Hopefully, someone will reply to this as i need to give her an answer today.

Thanks,
Gary.

Your smoking wont effect her ability to have healthy children, unless of course you smoke around her and she is pregnant. Just like regular cigs that produce second hand smoke so can weed and that can effect both her and a fetus.
Second for men it can effect their fertility in several ways. Smoking period no matter they type is not good for you or your sperm. Smoking can effect your erections hence making it harder to have sex. Smoking also effects the sperm count,(a low count can make it harder to become pregnant),motility(the movement and swimming of the sperm)can be effected, and the numbers of deformed sperm can increased with smoking. Those things can effect your fertility making it harder for your gf to get pregnant and it increases the risks of deformities and miscarriage for your gf. You see the poorer quailty of sperm the higher risk of miscarriage.
For your health and your future children it would be best to quit.
Her teacher was a bit off on what she told her class by the way she said it since it isnt passed to the girl it is just passed to the fertilized egg and that could cause problems.
You can find the book Taking Charge OF Your Fertility and it has some great info on men's fertility and the things that can effect it.

Hi Gary,

I honestly don't know how to answer your question since I don't have any factual evidence, but I have heard the same thing: that marijuana can make a man infertile.

If you spend any time around this board, you'll learn that the people trying desperately to conceive will do anything to get pregnant -- quit smoking, quit drinking (my doctor put my husband and I on a strict, limited alcohol regimen, which has been challening!), get poked and prodded, you name it.

None of us can make a decision for you -- it's going to have to come from your gut. It may not seem critical to you right now, but someday when you do want to start a family, it will become more important than you can fathom. You might realize then that you wished you had taken better care of yourself when you were younger. Not to mention, quitting smoking pot will make you an overall healthier person.

I wish you and your girlfriend much luck during this interesting time. I hope it brings you closer together and happier as a couple!

Thanks for the replies.Yes,i do enjoy smoking marijuana but as i've read tobacco and alcohol could also be causes of infertility. So,does that mean i would have to stop that too? I'm going to be 21 later in this month, and i'm going to want to go to a bar to shoot pool, and of course drink.Anyways, like i said i love her and i really don't want to lose her.Afterall she is my world, and not only our relationship but also our future of having kids may depend on it.

Marijuana is just a plant that makes me feel good, but my g/f is far more important than something like that.I guess i could atleast stop using it until we have kids, but when/if that time comes i will probably not start again as i would have a family to take care of.

Thanks again,
Gary.

Why do you need a drug to feel good??????

She is right to dump you for, regardless of your views on the matter, smoking weed is most likely illegal where you are and she has a real fear of you getting arrested and sent to jail when you resume smoking after any children are born. Also, how does it make her feel to know that she is incapable of competing with alcohol and illegal drugs in making you feel good?

Why can't you learn to have fun without the use of drugs? Think about it.

I almost agree, but that is a bit harsh. Not that i'm advocating smoking weed, but i hope that you're at least not smoking it all the time. Your girlfriend is right--you should stop smoking, but if you don't feel as if you can quit yet, at least try weaning yourself off of it. Also, you're right, it is NEVER right to smoke anything when you have kids. that's just second-hand smoke, that is, by experience, not too fun... :nono:
try to see this from her point of view.

have a great day
