my 13 year old and irregular periods

My daughter started her period Feb of this year. She was put on the pill in Aug after bleeding for 20+ days. Dr said this is not uncommon. I always had very irregular periods that ended up with a hysterectomy when I was 31 after undiagnosed uterine bleeding for 15 months. They say this has nothing to do with my daughters problems even though this is how I started out.

They won't let her see a gyn because she is under 18. I feel she needs to see one. The pills aren't working. She starts her period in the 2nd or 3rd week of her pack and then still bleeds for 10 days. Shouldn't things have leveled out by now?

Anyone with similar problems?

Thanks,
Julie

Who is THEY? If your doctor needs to get checked, 'THEY' should not stop you. I went to a gynecologist when I was 14 - for the same reason as well.

I think irregular periods are not uncommon... I cannot give you much input about why your daughter's bleeding does not coincide with the 'rest days' of the pill. What brand are you using?

I don't know what kind of person told you that your daughter cannot see a gyno because she is under 18 because that is a lie. A girl under 18 can see a gyno.

Both my cousins who are 14 and 16 had problems with their period. You're not alone. Sometimes a gyno is not necessary, and the first year of a woman's menstruation can be irregular.

I am not sure what to tell you, but I would advice to be calm and follow instructions from the doctor--if you feel they are not listening or looking further, then seek another doctor.
