Question Cytomel Question-Please Help?

Hi: I have been hypo for almost 20 years. About 2 years ago I started not feeling well, to where I thought I was going crazy and a feeling that I was going to die. Some of my symptoms were: sensitive to sun, no energy, headaches, heart palpitations, nausea, lightheadedness/dizziness, numbness and tingling, fatigue, insomnia, no energy, irritable, anxiety/panic attacks, crying jags. After some blood tests it was discovered that my hormones were out of wack. For the past 10 months my meds have been changed to where I feel a lot better but not completely myself. (Still very tired, no energy) I talked my doc into putting me on Cytomel to see if I would feel better. I have been on (.5-one per day) for a week now. I don’t feel any better yet.

My question is: Is .5 to small of a dose to make a difference? How long does it normally take to feel better? Any reply would be greatly appreciated. Sorry for the long message.

Cytomel has a short onset of action.. I am concerned about the dose you are taking and hope it is a typo.

.5mg (500mcg) Cytomel woudl be a VERY large dose and would have you hyperthyroid in no time, and, thus feeling terrible. This would require taking twenty(!!!) 25mcg pills daily.

.05mg (50mcg) is a large starting dose that is more than what most people end up taking long term. this woudl require taking two 25mcg pills or ten 5mcg pills.

.005mg (5mcg) is a small dose and is the smallest size available. It is common to start on a small dose like this and increase it every few weeks until the right dose and lab test results are reached.

Hi Meep: My med bottle reads Cytomel 5MCG, I'm not sure what that means.

Thank you so much for your input.

OK...5mcg or 5MCG as yours reads is the smallest dose that you can buy of Cytomel. It is a good starting point and a smart doctor will start you out this way.

You may notice immediate results (within hours) or you mya not notice anything for weeks, depending on your body chemistry. Hang in there and give it some time and you'll be alright.

Since that IS such a small dose, you may not notice any feelings from it until you increase the dose, depending on how low on T3 you are.

Do you have test results showing your T3 level?
