Post what's the difference between hypo & hyper?

I'm sorry if this has been addressed to death before. (I'm new here). If there is already a thread on this, please point me to it.

I don't know what I am (hypo or hyper). I know that I have Hashimoto's Disease but I don't know what that means. I know that I am always cold, always tired, have no energy, have major weight gain that i can't get off, losing my hair.

I've been having a lot of problems lately and finally ditched my old doctor and am going to see an endocryneologist on the 13th but I want to understand the different now.

What does each mean? What are the symptoms of each? What medication is for each?

Thanks.

Here is a good source of basic thyroid information that should answer your questions. It's sponsored by the US Dept of Health and Human Services. http://www.4woman.gov/faq/thyroid_disease.htm

The symptoms lists aren't all-inclusive; there are many others. If you have Hashi's, it's most likely you are hypo. Your symptoms fit it.
