Post suspicious thyroid and nursing

Hi everyone. I just found out about this board and was hoping someone out there can offer some help.

Brief background: My OB felt an enlarged thyroid and sent me to an internist. This led to blood tests, and ultrasound and a fine needle biopsy a few weeks after I had our baby. The ultrasound showed two nodules. The biopsy ame back suspicious.

My endocrinologist said that she's willing to wait until the baby is six months to take further action given that I am breastfeeding exclusively. At that point she'd like to do a scen with iodine, which means I can't nurse.

The problem is our baby won't take a bottle. So I was thinking just do surgery, surely it'll be outpatient and won't take long at all. Now I've read somewhere that I could end up spending days in a hospital. How long can treatment be postponed given that I don't relly have any symptoms; I feel fine. Are there any other alternatives? We're not near family so it would be really hard to take care of the baby and undergo this kind of treatment. Please help with any advice you can offer.

What are your lab results like? You could take thyroid hormones during the nursing to suppress the growth of whatever is suspicious without fear of harm to the baby at all.You woudl want to keep your Free T4 and Free T3 high in the lab ranges (correspondingly, TSH would be very low). Not only would this shrink your thyroid gland, but it would slow the growth of anything malignant, buying you some time.
