Born with half a thyroid?
Hi! I'm new to the board and have been reading a lot of the posts and have really appreciated the information. I'll try not to make this too long: I went in for a neck sonogram about 3 weeks ago for a swollen lymph node. The tech called in the doctor (THAT always makes you feel good!) and he asked if I had had any surgery. Apparently, I only have half a thyroid - could I have been born that way? Do they ever atrophy?? He also saw a nodule and pointed out a picture to the tech of papillary carcinoma. That's also really nice on a Friday afternoon, with the weekend looming ahead of me to freak out!
Anyway, had a needle biopsy the following Monday. My GP called me and said that 'it was nothing to worry about. we'll just watch it'. Needless to say, I got on the phone and made an appointment with an endo for Aug 26. Wish me luck! And - if any of you have ever heard of the 'born with half a thyroid' thing, please let me know!
