I am just wondering if I am having a flare-up of hashi. How long do these things last, if anyone knows? Is there a way to prevent them? I feel like my throat is swollen alittle, not bad. Just there.
Let me know your experience with hashi and/or flare-ups. Thanks!
Hashi's is a pain, up and down and round and round, makes you want to scream. I think that taking selenium is suppose to help keep antibodies down and help with flare ups. I have bad minutes and good minutes, I don't even go by days anymore because it seems like the way I feel can fluctuate by the minute. ARGH.
Hi. I am just getting over a round with a very large goiter. It felt like a ping pong ball was in my throat! All I know is,after 26 years of Hypo-T this was the worst yet! The only way to get over it is to get rid of it. I have the next step coming up, a biopsy. Then removal. My only suggestion is to read, read and read some more.I have found that no one has a good grasp on this thyroid thing! A friend who shares Hypo-T stories going back to her greatgrand parents, says she wishes she could afford to pay for at least one doctor in training to focus on the thyroid! Hang in there!
My Doc told me today, that I do have antibodies and I think he said inflamation..... think he was trying to tell me I have Thyroidosis or Hashimoto's (same?). I'll ask more on that next visit.
I'm fairly new, and some of my swings may be in part, due to my meds just working out a balance.
For a while there, it seemed like every good day or two was followed by a bad day or two. Now it seems to be more like one week or more up, one week or more down.
On those "up" swings, there is typically a couple of days that seem a bit too Hyper.

I believe that at one time I had hashi's, amny years ago. I havne't had a flareup in years, so I can't tell you how long they lasted--I dont' remmeber.
One thing I DO know is that supplementing with Selenium can help reduce the antibody count, which will make the flareups less severe and less frequent. Many people have reported fairly quick response to symptoms, so it might be worth trying. Start at 200mcg a day (don't exceed this) for about a month to see if it helps.
