It's pretty simple. A gel is put on a piece of equipment that is moved around your neck. They look at the ultrasound machine at the same time and they are taking pictures while moving the piece around your neck. The whole procedure takes no more than 15 to 20 mintutes. It will show if you have an enlarged thyroid (goiter), any nodules or anything else that may be suspicious (a mass).
