I too am from the bay area. I have been through what you are now going through. My family was without insurance for awhile and I had to go to the emergency room for symptoms of fast heartbeat and trouble breathing. They said I had anxiety and didn't do bloodwork on my thyroid. (We are making payments on that bill) Now we have insurance and the same thing happened and my doctor did check my thyroid and she says I have low thyroid. I had only a few symtoms and it has only been a month since this has happened. But the point is , you know your body and you should be tested if it is bothering you or for peace of mind. I'm pretty sure the test will cost under $80.00 if I am reading my insurance bill right. Best wishes, and God bless
