Post Infant thymus radiation

Did any of you have thymus radiation when you were infants. This was a fairly standard procedure in the late forties, early fifties. Research has established a thyroid cancer risk but I am interested in other possible symptoms that might correlate. ?????

No, I did not have any radation as a baby or child. I did use infertility drugs to have my kids. I was wondering if that had anything to do with my thyroid cancer. All the thyroid docs say no. But who knows??

Any radiation treatment to the neck or chest has been correlated to thyroid irregularities of all kinds. Any of the symptoms that accompany hypo- or hyperthyroidism, nodules, cancers, etc. are applicable. Read our "Information Archive" for symptom lists, or do your own search ~ (Click)

I had thymus irradiation as an infant, 56 years ago. I have an enlarged thyroid, more so on the right side, but the scan and 2 ultrasounds do not show any nodules. I've been trying to get on meds for hypothyroid, but the Dr. always says my numbers are normal. My mother and sister both have/had hypothyroid. I see the Dr. tomorrow for new tests. It's been 2 years. It would be nice to start meds and see if my neck size decreases. I did have an inflamed salivary gland about 15 years ago, but they don't feel it's related. I did have infertility, but it wasn't a hormone issue. They say that the breasts are safe because we were infants. So far, every mammogram is normal. Any other concerns? Fish
