Barb, I don't recall if I mentioned I've used Atkins since the 70's. If I did already say that, then please forgive me, and I plead menopause confusion!!
In the early 80's I got real stressed out over some personal issues and started eating. I gained many, many pounds. I went back to my safety net, the Atkins diet, and lost 80 lbs in 4 months. I felt wonderful through the entire diet, had zero cravings and improved my health all around. Once you start the Induction period of the diet, it takes about a week to get rid of your cravings, but once they're gone, they're gone!
When I got back on the Atkins diet just last May, I had also added Selenium to my daily vitamins/minerals. In two months, I went from 20+ years of hypo to being hyper. I was shocked! Doc said it was from the weight loss and the added selenium. My thyroid was functioning better! Doc reduced my dosage from 175 to 150, however, I couldn't tolerate the hyper symptoms, so stopped taking my Synthroid for a full 10 days, plus stopped the selenium. Now I'm back to hypo. I want to start up the selenium again, but sure don't want to go back to being hyper. What's a person to do?
I'm feeling so much better these days with all those extra pounds off. Atkins is wonderful.
