Question feeling something in my throat

Hi!

I've learned so much about thyroid just by reading this discussion board. It helped me to figure out what's going on with my body. I'm grateful to find this discussion board

I had a total thyroidectomy on the 14th of August because they found a papillary cancer on one of the nodule through FNA. A week after the surgery, I started to feel there is something stuck in my throat. I'm on synthroid right now for about 5 days. Does anybody have this kind of problem? Is it going to go away eventually?

I really fond of singing. But whenever I try to sing, this thing in my throat bothers me even more and of course I can't reach high notes now.

Also, I'm experiencing acne breakouts. I don't know if this has anything to do with my thyroid hormone fluctuation. My skin is quite sensitive. Even before my thyroid problem, I didn't have a clear skin. But it's gotten so much better a few months before the surgery.

Thanks so much for any response.

HI, I'm new here too so there's a lot of things I'm still trying to learn and figure out. First of all, if you have only been on medication for only 5 days, well...you gotta give yourself some time. It takes time for the symptoms to go away and for the medication to kick in. And yes, I've had the feeling of "something stuck in my throat" especially when I first had my thyroid problem (before I found out it was actually my thyroid). I have HYPO thyroid. It was hard to swallow and I had a hoarse voice. I've been on medication for 5 months now and I'm feeling more normal again than I was. I was feeling so horrible 5 months ago, but now it's not as bad. I still feel tired often and have other problems, but the thing about the throat, well, that problem is pretty much gone, although I do get my times when it seems like it's back. But not as severe as it was in the beginning. So, anyway, I would say just give yourself some time for the meds to kick in and if after a few months there's still no improvement, then ask your doctor.

ltw-
If it were me, I would just call my Doc & ask him. It can't hurt, and it will be notated on your record for future reference. When you are starting out on meds it helps to keep communications open between you and your doc so that he can regulate your dosage and find the best Rx for your body.
Good luck!

Talking

Thank you for your responses.

I did ask my surgeon about this thing that stuck in my throat and he told me to ask him again in a couple of weeks. This is already 2 weeks since then. I'm gonna try to call him again today.

I also asked my physician, actually, my physician replacement, because he's on vacation for a few weeks. And my physician replacement didn't seem to know the answer.

I'm actually kindda curious why I'm not being referred to an endocronologist. I'm only guessing that I don't really need to see one.

I too have that feeling of a lump in my throat. Been to my dr and he ordered a cat scan and that came back negative. Ive been in medication for two weeks now for hypo, i felt better for about a week and my throat was normal again but today i have that feeling of a lump. I go tomorrow to see my dr. Im thinking of going to see an endocrinolgist. I have a feeling my dr may suggest an ent speccialist but im thinking of seeing an endo first as im pretty convinced this is related to thyroid. My tsh was over six when last i was checked.
