Post See Dr. tomorrow. Help with ???? 2 ask

I go see my surgeon tomorrow. I need help with what questions to ask her. I am drawing a blank. I get panicked and if I donít write them down I forget to ask.

I'm assuming you're going to see the surgeon for the removal of your thyroid.

I would ask the follow:
1. how many times has he/she done this procedure. you want someone who has done this many2 times.
2. what is he/she going to do with your parathyroid (move them to other part of your body or keep them in tact)
3. how much big of incision
4. are you going to get stitches or just bandage. usually they only stitch the inside.
5. how long will you be in the hospital
6. how long will you have to be out of work
7. what will happen with your vocal cord
8. when will you get your hormone replacement and from who
9. what are the prep to go into the surgery

I'll let you know if I think of anything else.

Thank You very much. Yes I guess I could have put in here that it is to have the thyroid removed. Duhh Melinda
I dont work so I am not to worried about that.
This surgeon has worked on me before and the last incesion she made you can not even tell it was there. She did a running stich and you could only see it on the two ends.
She comes highly recommened by two other of my doctors but I will ask how many times anyway.
I already taken synthroid and cytomel but I dont know if I have to stop them or change them so that is something I had not thought of.
And I have been told over the phone that the incision would be 5 to 6 inches they are removing the whole thing not just part and some lymphnoids.
The vocal cords and parathyroid I will ask about. Had not thought of those either.
Thanks again.
Melinda
