Question I think its my thyroid

Hi guys i have some ??'s i have had proplems this past year unexplained pains, proplem with throat and i am always tired i was told fibro but i dont think so,now the last 3 months i have had this proplem with my neck i have had this feeling of something stuck in my throat or like a swelling feeling right by adams apple also a tightness in my neck, just weird feelings. My doc told me it might be gerd but i have been on nexium for 3 months and no change.I had a barium swallow(which was normal) would that show any thyroid swelling and does this even sound like thyroid issues .I havent been checked for it but will a simple blood test tell if it is?

Sounds familiar to me... I read this board a month ago, and decided to get my blooddrawn for TSH, FreeT4, and FreeT3 tests. Others here can help you interpret your results, sorry I don't know anything about the meds you are on though. Hope you find answers, don't give up!

This is a familiar symptom to many of us with thyroid problems. Mine comes and goes.

I have suffered with a thyroid disorder for about 8 plus years. When mine was detected it was through an x-ray but it was necessary to have iodine put into my body prior to having the x-ray for it to be visable. Hope this helps.

ok first of all...
Nexium is an antacid medication....you're probably on nexium for acid refluxes...or the barium x ray showed smthing that needed this medication (esophagitis perhaps)

The swelling and the whole neck prob you got there may be FROM 1000 different kinds of things
ALong these it can be your thyroid gland...

The best way to see if it's your gland is an ultrasound to see the size of it.
If it's larger then it may produce these symptoms...

as for the simple xray ....NO ..goiters cannot be seen in an xray

the xray with the iodine described above is a RAIU ...(radioiodine uptake) in which the patient is given radioactive iodine and after some hours when the iodine is collected to the gland ..they like take a picture of your gland and they see the function of the gland and possible probs that the gland may have...

Blood tests also can show you how your gland works but if it's the size of it that you re concerned of ....an ultrasound of your gland is the best way to find out.

Talking

have some thyroid bloood tests -- TSH, FT4, FT3, thyroid antibodies ...

oh, and get the numbers and post them -- don't be fobbed off by some receptionist or nurse saying "your tests were normal" ... the NEW normal for TSH is .3 to 3.0 ...
