Post cant gain weight, dizzy, is this my thyroid?

hi guys,
on a whim i decided to check out this board since my doctor told me she would be checking my thyroid levels. i am seriously thinking that i have a thyroid problem now. for the past couple of years ive suffered from dizziness, nausea after eating, problems swallowing and a funny feeling in my throat. ive also become totally irregular in my menstrual cycle. im 5'4" and barely a hundred pounds and no matter what i do i cant gain weight.

last night i woke up feeling nauseous so i propped a couple of pillows up and tried to go back to sleep. then suddenly i started shaking uncontrollably. this did not stop for about 45 minutes.

im just really curious .. could this be a problem with my thyroid? any suggestions would be helpful! thanks!

Hi,
It is possible it is your thyroid. If your doc is testing your thyroid be sure they do a T4 free, T3 free, TSH and thyroid antibodies. Most the time the tests that docs do don't include the "free" tests, these are the tests that measure the active thyroid hormone in your blood, so you want these done. Also, you can have "normal" numbers in the other tests but still have a thyroid problem if you have antibodies, so you will want them to check for antibodies.

Good luck to you.
