High Blood Pressure- Low Pulse

Just curious if any of you pay attention to your B.P and pulse. I bought a monitor at Wallgreens because I have noticed that my pulse has been a bit slow- and I've always wanted to track my b.p because everytime I go to the docs it is elevated. Three different readings tonight were all about the same- b.p was about 147/95 and my pulse was always right around 46. Any thoughts on these numbers?!?! I know the low pulse is typical for Hypo- but isn't high blood pressure usually related to Hyper??

Re: High Blood Pressure- Low Pulse

Not necessarily. Have you always had elevated blood pressure? Does it run in your family?
The low pulse if definitely an indicator of hypo. The high blood pressure can come from many different things. That is something you need to talk to your Doctor about.

Re: High Blood Pressure- Low Pulse

High blood pressure can occur when hypo/undermedicated as well.

I've been hypo since 1996 and have made the connection that I become hypertensive when undermedicated, and my blood pressure normalizes when medication is optimal. I use my blood pressure readings to judge whether my thyroid meds are optimal!

Re: High Blood Pressure- Low Pulse

But that is not an indicator.......it may be for you, but I have always had low blood pressure and did so even when I was severely hypo. Now, I do use my heart rate as an indicator.

Re: High Blood Pressure- Low Pulse

I always had very low blood pressure until right before I found out I was hypothyroid and at that time it was 180/120. When diagnosed my heart rate was 120 to 150 and it took several months for it to go down. I was diagnosed 1 year and 4 months ago. My pulse usually runs in the 70's and bp 135/85. Recently my meds were increased and I have noticed a slight decrease in my bp and increase in my pulse. My bp now is 132/79 and pulse is 90.
Three symptoms I can count on to indicate that I am undermedicated are: feeling cold and not being able to warm up, dry skin, and hair loss.

Re: High Blood Pressure- Low Pulse

132/82 pulse: 59 taken last night..........but, it usually runs about 10 points higher each at the doctor's office and pulse 10-15 points higher but high bp is prevalent in my family......and with a recent increase in Levoxyl (125mcg from 100mcg), mine's being watched carefully.

Re: High Blood Pressure- Low Pulse

Thanks for all of the replies!
My blood pressure for years was always low- I was so athletic that when I would go in to the docs they would always make a remark about how great it was. For the past several years it has always been a bit evelated- I just attributed it to "white coat syndrome" as I hate to go to the docs. It's hard to put all of these pieces of the puzzle together- sure seems like my hypoglycemia, blodd pressure/pulse, acid reflux, and adult onset allergies could all be due to the hypo- I do feel worse on meds- I'm guessing .075 synthroid is just not enough- I'm MORE tired now then I was before any meds- is that normal???
