Hi, I posted my lab results a couple of weeks ago prior to hearing from my DO and would like anyones opinion on his recommendation. First my labs were: TSH 6.027 (0.350-5.500) & Free T4 0.9 (0.8-2.7).
My DO's nurse called and told me that the doc thinks I am borderline hypo and that they want to redo my labs in 2 months. I was fine with this, but asked her to tell the doc that I have many hypo symptoms which I have related to stress until now which are loss of hair, fatigue, brittle nails etc. I havent heard back from him yet, but I do have an appt with him next week and planned on talking with him personally about this.
I would love any suggestions. I had rad tx 15 yrs ago for Hodgkins and I think possibley my thyroid has been affected. I love my doc and have been with him for 25 yrs, but I think he is being a little conservative with his dx considering my history. Am I paranoid?? Coincidentally, I have my yearly hematology appt next week too and I am going to run these results past my hemotologist even though its not really his specialty. Thanks everyone..This board is great..Carol

Borderline? No way, you are hypo.
Most women with no thyroid problems have a TSH closer to and most often below 1, you are well above this. Also the lab range is old, the new range is now .3-2.5
Your Free T4 is way too low, it should be above 1.75, you need a new dr if this one won't treat you.
Agreed! I'm extremely surprised that a DO wouldn't know that.
Print out these two webpages and take them with you. Your doc needs some updated information.

Thanks for your responses because I think I am hypo as well. The impression I got from the nurse is that he intends to treat if my levels are still hypo in two months.
I was confused too that he was so conservative about my results, but I will print the AACE updates to take with me when I see him next week.
