I could use some help

I am 39 years old. Two summers ago I missed two periods. I called my gyn she ordered bloodwork and it came back that it was my thyroid. I was hypo and my TSH was 8. I went to my primary care doctor and she put me on levoxyl. I would go back every few months for blood work and each time they would increase it. I am now on Synthroid .125mg.. I went in April and I believe my TSH was 1 I was told that was good come back in October. I did have surgery in February and again in March for a kidney stone. I had a horrible period in June and I missed my July and August period. I called my primary care doctor assuming it was my thryroid. The nurse told me that it should not have gone up that quick to call my GYN. I did but because I am on the pill I have to go off and wait a month for the hormone to be out of my body to have blood work done. I am going crazy!!! I want to know what is wrong with me. I asked my primary doctor in the past to send me to a specialist but she said that she can handle it in her office. She only checks my TSH levels. I do have symptoms. I am having trouble sleeping, I am so nasty I am waiting for my family to kick me out. I have had heartburn/acid reflux although I am not sure if this is a symptom. I am so hot only at night and I just don't feel right. Could my TSH change from April to June even though I take my medicine. Thanks and sorry this was so long.

what should not have gone up so quick? i'm assuming your TSH, but what was it? ok, i misunderstood -- yes, one's TSH can go up very quickly, given your two surgeries and other stuff ...

some doctors know very little about the effects of stress on the body, and both surgeries certainly count as that, also your missed periods, and your nurse practioner is not the one to say ...

your doctor cannot treat you properly if she doesn't do the following tests: a fT4 and a fT3, and have you had an antibodies test? the "frees", as they're called, are the only tests worth doing, and she is not taking proper care of you ... any endo would have at least done those tests ... (the frees measure the amount of unbound hormone that is available for your thyroid to use, and a TSH is only an indicator, from the pituitary gland, that something may be wrong) ... a TSH measures the amount of work the pituitary has to do to stimulate the thyroid, but the frees measure the amount of hormone directly in the blood ...

so insist on seeing a specialist, and perhaps search for an ND or a DO in the meanwhile ...

~ yes, acid reflux can be associsted with hypO ...

Re: I could use some help

Not to sound stupid but what is ND or DO? I have only had TSH test done. The last one was in April and I believe my level was 1. It was the nurse at my doctors office that said my TSH should not have gone up by July stopping my periods. But the only time I have missed my periods were with my 2 pregnancies and when my periods stopped 2 years ago due to my thryroid. I am not pregnant. Thanks for your help

an ND is a doctor of naturopathy and a DO is a doctor of osteopathy ... both have training in medicine, so from that point of view, they are better than chiropractors ... NDs and DOs have a more holistic attitide, and with thyroid disease, it's a good thing

you definitely need the frees and an antibodies test, and if your own doctor won't do them (i really don't see how she thinks she can treat hypO without doing them - even my own GP does them and that's no stretch), you'll have to find another ...
