My Grandma is battling a severe case of hypothyroidism she is 77 by the way..I do not have her blood work ranges or else I would post them...Any ways...B/c she has let it go for so long without treatment she is starting to show signs of Dementia ,depression, she has type 2 diabetes. Now this is the problem they have her on levoxyl 150mcg and she is suffering from severe headaches that start around her temple area, nausea, and fatigue .Is there another kind of thyroid pill they can give her that would be easier on her body...Im sure they cant give her armour b/c she has harden of the arteries of the brain and synthroid makes her sick as well. Is there anything I can do for her? any advise would be appreciate..Thank you : (
Did they start her on 150 mcgs, or did she work up to that gradually?
Elderly people usually need smaller doses than younger ones, and 150 is higher than the average person needs anyway. The average is about 120.
There are other brands besides Synthroid and Levoxyl. Maybe one of those would be better, but I suspect the size of the dose may be the culprit.

They increased her dose every two weeks..Started her out at 25 , 50 ,100 so forth and so on until 150...Ive asked my aunt which is her daughter to get her in to see a endo but instead she is letting a neurologist treat her for the thyroid problem.." go figure "..Thank you Midwest
I will suggest to my aunt about the dose decrease to see if it helps..
