Question Thyroid problem

Iwas just wondering if anyone coul help me with my tsh level Iwas recently tested and here is my results 0.608 then here is the reference range 0.350-5.500 and I was wondering if mine was low or not Iwas told at one time that I had a borderline under active thyroid and then the doctors found multiple cysts all over the thyroid that they wanted to remove which I have not let them yet. They told me that I would feel better after It was removed but I was scared and now I am waiting to see a specialist to be tested for lupus and thought perhaps all of this is related. Any help is appreciated.

Thanks
Darlene

Re: Thyroid problem

I'm a "newbie" to the wonderful world of thyroid problems but it is my understanding that you want the TSH near the bottom of the range (lower, as opposed to higher). You also need to get your free T3 and T4 tested along with the TSH to get a clearer picture of what is going on. Were these tests done?

Re: Thyroid problem

Your TSH alone doesn't indicate you're "borderline" hypo. It might indicate borderline hypER... but it all depends where your free thyroid hormone levels lie.

I think you're right to be leery of anyone telling you to remove your gland just for multiple cysts or nodules. Unless the enlargement they can cause presses on your windpipe or esophagus, causing constriction of either. Get more opinions if that's still an issue.

If you're having many symptoms (other than cysts), you might consider more thyroid tests, including a new TSH, free T4, free T3, and thyroid antibodies. You might have something going on, no matter that your TSH looks OK.
