Hi I was diagnosed with a thyroid prob about 5 months ago. About 3 months after taking my meds. I starting feeling better. But lately I am feeling like I did before the meds. I take 00.5 mg. I have noticed the last 2 months my pills taste like candy. Does anyone else have that experience? It made me wonder if I was given placebo pills? I also read some where on this board that certain doses are not considered a real dose? Any info would be appreciated! I was also never told about the Free levels etc. My dr just talked about the tsh.

TSH is not the important test. You also need the freet3 and freet4.

I am hypo and just had the tsh and freet4. My tsh is normal but my freet4 shows that I am hypo.

I have learned so much from reading these boards how important that is.

If you are not feeling well, I think you need more testing. I am not a doctor but there are so many important things that I have learned about the thyroid.

My doctor only does the freet4 and tsh. Some doctors are not so educated on the thyroid.

I have the same question as April, what meds are you taking. The answer to your question is yes, I have often thought my synthroid tasted sweet, as if it had a candy coating. Never questioned the Dr. about it though. I guess I didn't think anything of it as long as my blood work showed improvement.

I went to a group of Drs for over 4 years who thought TSH was the holy standard of thyroid measurement. I have found a Dr. who does things differently now. If your Dr. refuses to do a free T4 and free T3 perhaps you might want to look into changing Dr.s if you ins. allows.

You should be able to look up the non-medical ingredients to your meds - both my natural meds have sugar/dextrose in them, and do have a sweet aftertaste (although it's mixed with the horrible taste of the active ingredient, so I don't know why they bother!). Maybe they increased the amount of sugar in your new batch, or you are noticing the sweet taste more?
