What meds pre-surgery

What do they put you in pre-surgery? I dont see the surgeon untill the 22nd and have surgery set for the 27th. Is that enough time? Or do you not take meds pre-surgery if you are hypo w goiter? Soooo confusing.

Re: What meds pre-surgery

surgery for what? Thyroid cancer or hyperthyroidism?

I'm not sure about thyroid cancer, but for a thyroidectomy for Graves/hyperthyroidism they typically give you SSKI or Lugol's solution to take for a few days prior to the surgery. This makes the thyroid gland less vascular and therefore makes it a much less bloody surgery. It also lowers thyroid hormone levels.
Dx Graves 4/99, tx w/Tapazole & Atenolol - Remission 7/03; Relapse 1/06, back on Tapazole, remission & off meds again 11/06.
