Question Supplmenting with Kelp can it cause ....

headaches. I have been taking kelp for about 1 week now and I am getting these terrible headaches. I am not sure if there is a link or not. Can anyone advise about wether it is a symptom of kelp or should I be taking something with the kelp. So many questions. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks and God Bless.

Hi...I remember asking my endo about supplementing with Kelp to help stimulate thyroid...she told me that since the thyroid doesn't work, taking Kelp won't help it anyway That seemed like a dumb answer to me. If the thyroid was working properly why would you need kelp anyway?? Sorry, don't know if headaches are a side effect. Try not taking it for a couple of days and see if headaches go away...then you'll know. Are you hypo?

If you are Iodine deficient, Kelp could help your thyroid function by giving the thyroid gland the iodine it needs to manufacture thyroid hormones.

If you are Iodine deficient, but also Selenium deficient, getting enough Iodine may cause problems, unless you supplement with Selenium, too.

If you are not iodine deficient, then kelp won't help you and could even make you go hyper, if you are not hypo, or have no effect at all if you are hypo.

As for the headaches, it could be any number of things, and the kelp might be the root of it. Kelp made my hypo symptoms worse, and headaches were on of my hypo symptoms.

I was not sure if I could or should take Selenium. I read the ingredients and is has yeast in it. I find that I am very suspectible to yeast. I already deal with alot of discharge all month long and I did not want to add to it. Do you think taking Selenium be a problem? The reason I started to take Kelp was that my Free T4 was on the lower end of the range and thought that this might help with that. Do you think it will or will not? Advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Without knowng if you are Iodine deficient or Selenium deficient, I couldn't tell you any more than I already have.

Taking Selenium from a yeast source should not have any effect on Candida (yeast) infections that I am aware of, but if you are worried about that, Selenium can be bought in a yeast-free form, too.
