I found it VERY interesting that all my thyroid blood tests and the hormone tests, cholesterol and diabetic tests totalled $1,125.00!

and my INSURANCE negoticates that they'll only allow it to cost $275.00 to which I am required to pay $55.

Now....isn't THAT rediculous! Just what kind of a mark up on these tests are there! I'm trying to imagine how it is for someone who's NOT covered!!!!!!

That's just horrible!!!!!

What a GAME this all is!

I do find it interesting though. I need to be in the lab business.

Whoa!!!!!! Gosh, that is totally ridiculous! What about followup testing etc. Thank God for the Health system in Oz Land, these tests are free!

The reason uninsured people are paying this ungodly amount is because insurance companies can and do negotiate prices so low that hospital and labs have to mark up the prices for the uninsured. They also figure into that price the people who cannot afford to pay. Everybodies out for the almighty buck. It surely IS rediculous!
I was uninsured for over a year. Now I am partially insured (80/20 after a hefty deductable). I work part time (it's all I can do right now) and make anywhere from $95-$150/wk. My insurance (for me, my dh and my son) costs $50/wk. And let me tell you, it's crappy insurance but it's better than nothing.

Pushka. so nice to see you! Is it getting warmer there? We had snow last Wednesday and it stuck around for our Thanksgiving Day festivities. It was really quite beautiful though.

Did anyone do the math? (I always give someone else a chance first, lazy brain. Thyroid. Yeah, that's it.)

I don't think it adds up. $275 from $1100 something, isn't it a lot more than you said? Maybe that's your point?
