Cool hey guys !! New and need direction

I will make this as short as possible. I am a 44 year old female. I am obese(about 110 pounds overweight) 2 years ago I started a diet or what I refer to as a "lifestyle change". I just got tired of feeling worthless and unhealthy. I dropped 60 pounds in the first 3 months and went to the doc to see if i was healthy enough to start an exercise program. After a full check-up, I was told I had anhyperactice thyroid. The nodule on my left thyroid was the size of a golf ball. Apparently this had been going on for sometime. I was put through all the testing to confirm and retested and retested again. LOL I guess I didnt have the physical composition of someone with hyperthyroid. I started taking tapazole daily and continued to lose weight. It took me 14 months and i lost 114 pounds. Then it stopped !!! I continued to maintain and in just the past 6 months i have gained 40 of those pounds back. Ny endocrin dropped my meds to 3x a week for 2 months and just last week dropped me to 2x a week. I guess i can deal with the weight gain and will have to do my best to maintain until i start losing again. I am a little upset, but hey...thyroid...what can I say? LOL....i am a little scared though. In the last 6 months, I have lost 30% of my hearing in both ears and now wear hearing aids. I have just found out that I have macular degeneration and I have some vision loss in my central vision that cannot be reversed. My sinuses have go to pot. I have this awful feeling in the pit of my gut that this is all thyroid related. Has anyone had the same experience?? Being hyper and being obese rather than small and having hearing and vision problems?? I would appreciate any feedback and welcome any comments/complaints/thoughts etc...

Thanks!!

Re: hey guys !! New and need direction

Congrats on the lifestyle changes and the progress with your weight. Many only wish they could have that kind of success.

If you have Graves disease, it can affect your eyes. if you haven't made an appointment with an opthalmologist that is experienced in treating Graves Eye Disease, make this a next step. Just seeing an opthalmologist isn't necessarily good enough.

Next, you didn't say what med you are taking or post any of your lab results (and the refeence ranges for them). Post those and let's see if we can help you make sense of what they mean. It is really odd to be taking a thyroid med or an antithyroid med only once or twice a week. Something doesn't smell right to me about that, and that may be why you are slipping, now.

Re: hey guys !! New and need direction

Meep.........Thanks for the reply!! Yes, I was refered to an opthalmologist and was told my eye problem was not related to my thyroid. I am now seeing a Retina Specialist. I will not get my new lab results until Dec 2 and will post them as soon as I get them. Tapazole (Methimazole) is the medicine I am currently taking. My Endocrins reason for dropping the meds is he fear of me going hypo. I have done much reading on thyroid issues and have gained more knowledge here in one evening of reading these boards than a year researching the web. It is hard to get people to understand how horrible I feel. Most of my Thyroid blood work comes back only slghtly elevated and if it had not been for my general doctor being persistant, they probably would have never found the toxic hot nodule. Anyways, Thanks for listening it is much appreciated. I will post my lab results Thursday and we will take it from there.
