Aging Issue

Can a thyroid problem affect the way you look in terms of age. I'm 23, I look about 13 or 14. That's not normal and most people look their age or slightly younger or older. I haven't changed much at all. Is there a name for what I got?

Re: Aging Issue

Rick...don't know about looking younger, but I think it's aged my face, and for sure my body looks differant. I'll trade places with you though...
No, seroiusly, do you mean short stature, or lack of facial hair? I've heard it can affect your growth if you get hypo while you're a child.

Re: Aging Issue

Rick, I have not read any info on this. I do know that hypo has caused me to age. Rapidly. I think there has to be a connection.
I wish I could offer an answer, but I will trade with you! lol...

Hypothyroid children mature slowly, and don't grow as fast as their peers, but on the other hand they tend to hit puberty earlier, for some reason. dos that sound like you? Yes, you are 23, but with some human growth hormone and restoring your thyroid levels to optimal (rather than just "normal") you may finish "growing up" (I feel terribly awkward for putting it that way).

Chances are that you are hypothyroid and have been for quite some time.
