Need your help, please

Okay, everyone, my brother just got his follow up test results back (after surgery) and his TSH was 5. The doctor said no medicine yet, that it's borderline.

What do you all think? Anyone had the same experience?

Thanks,

Salty

That is not borderline. Two is borderline for some (not for me).
He is hypo.

Re: Need your help, please

Did they remove all of his thyroid and why? If my TSh is 5 I start feeling like a bad case of the flu! He should address this with his Doc. That to me is too high but I guess it also depends on his other numbers.

Re: Need your help, please

I thank both of you for your responses.

He had one lobe taken out.

His dr. swears it's not too high and he doesn't have to go on meds and to just monitor it every 4 months.

I just don't know!

Re: Need your help, please

Please, please, tell your brother to get another opinion - or more if he must, because his MD is wrong, according to the American Academy of Clinical Endocrinologists. They say that a TSH that high deserves medication. Here are some URLs you can look up for more information...

Salty:

What the others are telling you is correct. Five is over the proper range...and would make most people feel like death warmed over.

That doctor is not up to date on his information and that could be putting your brother's life at risk,

Please find a new doc.

Good luck!
