Re: help me!

I can just imagine how disgusted you are. Hope that things will work out for you. It is so hard to argue with a doctor isn't it?

God bless

I HATE that! Fibromyalgia literally translates to mean fiber pain or, more clearly tissue pain. It is a SYMPTOM, not a disease. Diagnosing someone with fibromyalgia is like diagnosing someone with a disease called "headache" because their head hurts. The doc then prescribes pain pills to treat the mystery disease rather than asking: WHY does the head hurt?

Is it a sinus infection? Prescribe antibiotics and a decongestant! Migraine? Prescribe a migraine medication! Brain tumor? Remove the tumor! In all these cases, the cause was treatable. In all these cases, treating the symptom would work for a while, but is asking for even more trouble later. Why not get to the root of the problem and treat what is causing the symptom rather than throwing pain pills at it like what is done with "fibromyalgia".

Some doctors just don't get it!

Re: help me!

exactly meep! I went in there yesterday thinking "yes now I will finally get some answers!" but came out feeling like a hypochondriac, he looked at me like "what is this woman doing here? I'll tell her anything to shut her up" I did make him send me for a thyroid uptake scan so I will be booking that today, I just cannot believe that the docs still think i am making all of this up after a whole year of pestering them with these symptoms. I can't take this anymore! I am too young to feel this bad!

Re: help me!

I feel for you, I had all kinds of crazy symptoms before I was diagnosed with thyroid cancer and I had to FIGHT to get a diagnosis, I went thru several doctors who told me I was imagining it! Imagine a LUMP? Only after the lump got so big did I get a Dr. to notice. I swear today I might be Dead if I had not just kept FIGHTING these Dr's. Now I am back to fighting them again and have had 2 PCP's imply that I had never even had thyroid cancer. Now I am fighting to get my records! I suppose I have to PROVE IT! The 5 inch scar on my neck proves nothing LOL. I am going to start a post on medical record keeping as I just found a good book on it. Keep Fighting and even if scan comes back OK, I would question everything ,because ALL of my thyroid tests came back fine! Their idea of fine on blood tests too is not always right. Oh and by the way my latest PCP labeled me with Fibromyalgia too, and then had the nerve to tell me it was a MADE UP DISEASE. I agree with Meep its a group of symptoms!

Re: help me!

I totally empathize with you. A few weeks ago I was finally diagnosed with chronic fatigue syndrome, which just describes one of my symptoms rather than trying to identify a cause. Considering I don't have severe fatigue after exercise and more a general tiredness and foggy mind, it looks like my doctor thought 'oooh, "normal" test results = no problem... hmm, she's still tired, let's call it chronic fatigue and give her antidepressants'. It's upsetting and maddening and frustrating.
