I HATE that! Fibromyalgia literally translates to mean fiber pain or, more clearly tissue pain. It is a SYMPTOM, not a disease. Diagnosing someone with fibromyalgia is like diagnosing someone with a disease called "headache" because their head hurts. The doc then prescribes pain pills to treat the mystery disease rather than asking: WHY does the head hurt?
Is it a sinus infection? Prescribe antibiotics and a decongestant! Migraine? Prescribe a migraine medication! Brain tumor? Remove the tumor! In all these cases, the cause was treatable. In all these cases, treating the symptom would work for a while, but is asking for even more trouble later. Why not get to the root of the problem and treat what is causing the symptom rather than throwing pain pills at it like what is done with "fibromyalgia".
Some doctors just don't get it!
