Hang on before we jump to conclusions.... According to one website: "Extra zinc (take with copper when using long term, because zinc inhibits copper absorption) may be necessary as well to help boost thyroid function. "
Copper inhibits thyroid function when the levels of copper are too high, but so does Selenium, for that matter, and we know how beneficial Selenium is in the right amounts. Moderation and balance is the key.
I am not a doctor, nor have I ever played one on TV...
