copper supplements

HI all!
Does anybody know if people with thyroid issues should be taking copper?
I noticed that the vitamins I am taking have added copper. These are the ones my dr wants me to take. Since I am constantly questioning his knowledge I thought I would check with you guys.
Thanks! Anne

Re: copper supplements

I found that lots of Dr's use supplements with Copper for treating thyroid disease, Copper SLOWS DOWN the thyroid. They also use it to aid in the absorbtion of Iron. Don't know if this helps but there was a lot of info on the www. What sort of thyroid disease do you have?

Benzi thanks for the info!
I was afraid of the copper "slowing" my already slow thyroid. I guess I will be changing those supplements. Waht a shame we have to check up on our drs.
Take care! Anne

Re: copper supplements

Hang on before we jump to conclusions.... According to one website: "Extra zinc (take with copper when using long term, because zinc inhibits copper absorption) may be necessary as well to help boost thyroid function. "

Copper inhibits thyroid function when the levels of copper are too high, but so does Selenium, for that matter, and we know how beneficial Selenium is in the right amounts. Moderation and balance is the key.

I am not a doctor, nor have I ever played one on TV...
