I was recently diagnosed with hypo and have sooooo many symptoms. One is the dry hair. It is not as bad as the other symptoms, but I just feel so bad and want to do something with my hair so I don't feel so ugly. I wanted to color it but I am a little afraid due to the dryness. Has anyone else had this feeling, should I not put any chemicals on my hair (afraid it might burn up or fall out) Please give me thoughts or suggestions.
I definately would not add chemicals unless you just do a highlight in a few areas or use a temporary rinse that has no ammonia. If your hair is already dry chemical will probably cause breakage.
You can go and get a deep conditioning treatment at the salon that should help you somewhat. You will still need to follow up with a good daily conditioner. Moisturizing shampoo is great too.
I have had dry hair for what seems like forever, you really just need to find a good conditioner that works for you. Also if you dry your hair with a blow dryer, you may want to look into getting an ionic hair dryer. I love mine and can tell the difference in my hair. It is much less dry looking.
Once your medicine kicks in and your thyroid is regulated your hair may not be so dry. Some people have reported that their hair changes from straight to curly or curly to straight. I personally have noticed more waves since being diagnosed with thyroid disease.
Good luck, I know it's frustrating.
I am not a good one to answer cause I like my hair dry, it gives it body, LOl, I have read on several different websites that being hypo makes your hair thicker. (I know it's weird). My hair and skin never seem to be affected much by being hypo. I live in Arizona and EVERYONE seems to have dry skin and hair! I must be so used to seeing people this way that I think it looks normal!
