Question Beginnings of a goider??

I've been trying to find out what a normal un-enlarged thyroid should look like if you were looking at someone's neck that has a normally (and I use that word loosely) functioning thyroid.

The reason I ask is because I have been feeling around my neck the past day or so, and when I look in a mirror, tilt my head back, and swallow - I do see it moving. It feels enlarged I guess, though I don't know if it has always felt this way or if this is a new development.

Should you feel it at all?

Ugh, sorry if this is confusing - I'm a little brainfoggy today..

Re: Beginnings of a goider??

Are you sure you aren't seeing your Adam's apple (larynx) moving up and down?
To be sure of what you're seeing, go to the AACE website. It has a page called "The Neck Check", which gives instructions in how to perform a self thyroid exam.

Re: Beginnings of a goider??

well, i looked at the AACE website and was unable to find anything like what you suggested for people that aren't members - maybe I just missed it?

Anyway, I don't believe I'm seeing my adams apple, (I'm looking at this site http://www.getbodysmart.com/ap/respiratorysystem/larynx/functions/animation.html, and this one http://www.yoursurgery.com/ProcedureDetails.cfm?BR=6&Proc=54) what I'm seeing and feeling seems to be below where my lyrynx should be. It's almost down between my collar bones - about an inch or two above it
