thyroid uptake scan

Hi Guys,
I am going for my thyroid uptake scan this afternoon and tomorrow afternoon. I am not sure exactly what this test is I'm a little scared partly because I don't know that much about the test and partly because I don't think I can go through one more test without a diagnosis. I'll let you all know how it goes. Wish me luck

Re: thyroid uptake scan

Goodluck Sickie and thankyou. I feel a bit stupid now, in another post I ask what an 'Optic scan' is, I gather the doctor was saying 'Uptake scan' and thanks to your post I now realise that.

I had mine today and dont have the results yet but it was painless and nothing to worry about. Lasted in total aout 30 minutes.

Re: thyroid uptake scan

Hmmm..I had the thyroid uptake test. Swallowed a small amount of radioactive iodine, went back the next day they measure how much my thyroid took up.

Easy...as far as scan...who knows! :-)

Re: thyroid uptake scan

For some reason they didnt give me radioactive iodine, they actually made a point of saying that. Im not sure why.

I had to be without food after midnight the night before(and could not eat for an
hour after swallowing the pill) ....I had to come back that afternoon for the
scan(which you just lay there with the camera over your neck for
about 30 minutes) I then had to come back the next morning for the
uptake which was the same except shorter. It's a piece of cake :-)
