Does It Matter....

...what time of day you have your thyroid testing done?

Thanks,

Re: Does It Matter....

Whenever you have it done make sure you haven't taken meds within 8 hours.
If you take meds in the morning just don't take them till after bloodwork or if you take them wait till 8 hours later and then get bloodwork. TSH is generally highest in the morning.

Re: Does It Matter....

Just want to clarify, I think dea4 is referring to thyroid hormone replacement medication. (If you take it right before a lab draw, it can falsely elevate your thyroid hormone levels - but take it immediately after the lab draw.)

What I always did was try for consistency with my lab draws. I tried to get my blood drawn between 9:00 am and 10:00 am each time. This way I felt that I was eliminating any variable that could arise from lab draws being done at different times of the day.

Re: Does It Matter....

Thank you both for your replies. I'm actually not on any medication yet (suspect hypothyroid, but doc says I don't need meds even though a nuclear sacn showed that a 1/4 of my thyroid is not functioning due to nodules). I was just curious if the bloodwork results might vary from morning to afternoon. Sounds from your replies like I can have it at any time.

Thanks!

Inq
