my nodules are getting bigger. help

i went in on friday for my 6 month followup ultrasound on my goiter.

here are the results in centimeters. old results were at diagnosis, no thyroid replacement. new results are after 6 months of replacement, but probably without any real TSH suppression (lowest around .35, and didn't stay there long).:

right lobe
29-Jul 28-Jan
6.72 6.8
2.38 2.59
2.15 2.47
area 34.39 43.50
(area is not super scientific, but i thought it would be a good way to compare the lobes/nodules as a whole, and not just individual dimensions).

left lobe
29-Jul 28-Jan
6.73 6.42
2.43 2.83
2.72 2.43
area 44.48 44.15

isthmus
29-Jul 28-Jan
0.48 0.53

nodule one
29-Jul 28-Jan
0.69 not seen
0.52
0.43
area 0.15

nodule two
29-Jul 28-Jan
0.87 1.16
1.03 1.06
0.56 0.57
area 0.50 0.70

nodule three
29-Jul 28-Jan
1.3 1.28
0.98 1.16
0.87 0.88
area 1.11 1.31

overall, it looks like my left lobe shrunk a bit (-1%), but the right lobe more than made up for that shrinkage with it's growth (27%).

i lost one nodule, but that's suspect to me. is it possible the sonographer just missed it? it was pretty tiny.

the other two nodules both grew (40% and 18%).

should i be concerned? at this point, i don't feel overly concerned. i want to discuss real TSH suppression (<.1) with dr. manzanero, to see if things will shrink then. i especially want the goiter to shrink, because it's really effecting my singing voice and i feel hoarse all the time. thyroid cancer seems highly unlikely, but i would love to get your opinions.

I would say as soon as the doctor thinks they are big enough to biopsy I would have the needle biopsy done. It could be Hashimoto's thyroiditis. Have you been tested for antithyroid antibodies?
There is a lot of information here in the archives if you use the search function. Many people here have had nodules of one kind or another.
Hope you find the information you're looking for.
Good Luck,
Nodi

i have the hashi's antibodies, and a family history. i'm certain that i have hashi's.

my concern about the biopsy is that FNA can't really rule out cancer, it can only find it. what's the point? if we really need to rule out cancer, i say go in and take the whole nodule and send the whole dang thing to pathology. the endo that i fired for her horrible mismanagement of my medication is hot to trot on me having the FNA done. however, my new doc is not a big fan of FNA, because it can miss cancer (if the needle doesn't hit the right spot).

i'm just wanting to figure out if i have anything to worry about or if i can go another six months trying to really suppress my TSH and see if they shrink then.

rachel.

Re: my nodules are getting bigger. help

hi!
i've had a 2cm multinodular goiter for 7 1/2 years.
it's pretty much stayed the same size.
i noticed it after having my 2nd child.
i've had 2 biopsies done, four years apart.
the ent said it's like having a room full of white ping pong balls with only10 red in the room.
if you sucked out the balls with a vac. chances are you may not get any of the red balls.
that's true but it just made me feel better. especially at first when you really don't know if you could have cancer or not.
after 7 years of no change i'm pretty confident i'm fine now.
