many hypothyroidism questions

I have read that having hypothyroidism can affect fertillity. How rare/frequent is this and how can it be prevented? I have been on Levexyl for a couple of months now and am only 19. I take my temperature every morning and afternoon and evening....it never rises above 98 degrees. Should I worry about this? Also, my goiter had gotten smaller, then it got big again...is there a reason for this? I am so young to be unhealthy and hate feeling the effects of hypothyroidism.

Re: many hypothyroidism questions

IMO, you shouldn't focus so much on your temperature, especially if your other symptoms are improving. If they aren't, it means you haven't reached your perfect dose yet. If I remember right, you just started treatment not long ago. You probably aren't "there" yet.

Yes, fertility in an untreated hypothyroid woman can be affected. But you are in treatment, so as long as you have a doctor dedicated to finding your optimum dose, you'll be fine. Learn as much as you can about your condition by reading books by the reputable authors listed in our Information Archive.
Aim to get your free T levels in the upper third of their lab ranges. Don't settle for a doctor's refusal to increase your dose if you're still having symptoms. When your free levels are high enough, you will no longer "feel the effects" of your condition, nor will you have any fertility issues caused by hypoT.
