Goal range?

I realize this is a somewhat subjective question, but what is the "ideal" range for TSH, T3 and T4?

Re: Goal range?

Ideally, based on some of the more popular lab ranges, you would want to be somewhere around here:

GOALS:

Normal TSH = .85 – 1.7 Reference Range .4 - 5.5
Normal Free T3 = 3.7 – 4.1 Reference Range 2.30 - 4.20
Normal Free T4 = 1.4 – 1.7 Reference Range .80 – 1.8
No Antibodies

That's if we were in a perfect world and everrything always remained the same. Add stress, diet andother factors into the equation and the numbers get thrown out of wack.

Re: Goal range?

If you are on meds, you want the FREE levels in the upper 1/3 of the labs range, and the TSH generally has to be suppressed meaning below range.
Upper 1/3 is calculated by taking the high number of your labs range and subtracting the low number and then divide by .7, then add in the low number.
Example....range for FT4 is .8-1.8, you would take the 1.8 and subtract the .8 and your answer would be 1, then divide by .7 and you get .7, then you add in the .8 and you get 1.5, so your target upper 1/3 or 70% for your FT4 would be 1.5 your number could actually fall around 1.4-1.6 but this is where MOST people feel well, some may actually feel fine with their number a bit lower and for men the target range is actually mid range, women generally need theirs a little higher.
