If you are on meds, you want the FREE levels in the upper 1/3 of the labs range, and the TSH generally has to be suppressed meaning below range.
Upper 1/3 is calculated by taking the high number of your labs range and subtracting the low number and then divide by .7, then add in the low number.
Example....range for FT4 is .8-1.8, you would take the 1.8 and subtract the .8 and your answer would be 1, then divide by .7 and you get .7, then you add in the .8 and you get 1.5, so your target upper 1/3 or 70% for your FT4 would be 1.5 your number could actually fall around 1.4-1.6 but this is where MOST people feel well, some may actually feel fine with their number a bit lower and for men the target range is actually mid range, women generally need theirs a little higher.
