Saw my doctor today and he said that even though my thyroid is off , my big issue is rare defect of carnitine deficiency, something hes only seen 1 time in 20 years. He says that my carnitine is so bad it could be throwing off my thyroid and will recheck in 2 months. He wonders how I went this long feeling this way.
No one will probably have this and not everyone needs it checked im just lucky i did it a while back and brought him my old labs and he flipped out.
Sounds like you have a good doctor. What are the chances of you finding a doctor who knows about carnitine deficiency and it's symptoms? It's probably like a needle in a haystack. You definitely have an for a doc!
What do they do for that? Is there supplements that you can take?
I hope you're feeling better very soon.
My endocrinologist found the disorder in me 4 years ago but i didnt listen , i took the labs to my new doctor and he said WOW ive seen this only 1 time in 20 years of practice and this needs to be taken care of. It is the reason I feel bad and he said could be causing my thyroid to go off balance. Its treated with a prescription medicine but its more like a nutritional supplement. Its a extremely rare disorder and I have a primary case. He hoping treating my carnitine problem will help my thyroid. My body doesnt keep carnitine it just excretes it and carnitine is a major energy force in every cell of the body. And I also dont absorb b vitamins very well...this explains when i used to get b12 shots I never felt any different. Its a genetic disorder in my case.
