Hi,
I am just curious, is anyone on a really high dose of thyroid med? I am currently on 250mcg synthroid. Felt bad on T3. I am wondering how much higher I can go. All the literature says that if someone needs 300mcg then there may be other issues. I am almost there.
WOW! I started on 200mcg. Was diagnosed on TSH only. Not to difficult when my TSH was 393. Two weeks into it i went to an Endo instead of the GP and he freaked that I was on so much. He instantly dropped me to 125. I am a small person and that was way to much for me. Lost 20 pounds over the high dose. Maybe you should have them check into other things. How long have you been on this high dose? Do you feel any better or do you continually get worse?
It would be interesting to see you labs. Got any you could post?
I think some people can take big doses...since they have extenuating circumstances. Pehaps its an aborbtion thing or your t4 was not converting well. T4 by itself has a lot of converting to do...so that could be just it for you.
Our son takes 250 mcr. He was dxed 25 years ago, when he was 10. Seems his thyroid just dried up and died for some reason. Since then, he has needed increasingly higher doses as he grew and matured. For about 10 years, from like 21 to 31 or 32, the dosage remained the same but these last few years it has had to be increased.
Thanks Patience,
That makes me feel a bit better. I actually was fine on .112 mcg for the past 4 yrs after six yrs of misdiagnosis. Since giving birth 7 months ago my dose has been increased to the current 250mcg. I also feel as if my thyroid has just "burnt itself out". On this dose, I still have a heartrate of 55-60, constipation, dry skin/hair, always tired upon awakening....

It could be the hormone swings with pregnancy and post partem did your thyroid in. All these things are connected in ways I don't think are understood by many, certainly not me. There is a very long post here about estrogen, progesterone, and thyroid all being connected but I'm afraid I didn't get through it all. However, I have been touting for some time that I feel it is all connected. Too many women experience lower thyroid levels during or immediately after pregnancy and many experience early perimenopause and are found to have low thyroid, or vise versa. It is truly all connected and Dr.s need to pay more attention to it all.
I totally agree with you. I actually purchased natural progesterone cream but have not tried it yet and am not sure if I should. I did start reading that long post and find it fascinating. I definitely agree that this is hormonal.
Thanks again.

I just went to the GP last Thursday to learn how to taper off this Zoloft. Now that my thyroid is in a more normal range i'm not to concerned about the anxiety attacks returning. I told him about having the night sweats and hot flashes so he is checking for perimenopause. He took two tests for that, FSH (folical stimulating hormone) and LH (lutinizing hormone). He also is checking my TSH. I do have an endo I go to because I don't trust this GP with my thyroid stuff.
