Would you be annoyed at my doctor?

Hi
Just want to know what you think about this doctor. My thyroid tests came back 'abnormal' and I was told to go back and get more blood work done. I told the doctor that I have a history of thyroid disorders in my family and I am breastfeeding. When my results came back, I got on the internet and did some research on the different tyroid blood tests. I had the T4 done and it said that becaue I am breastfeeding it can throw off the levels. Now, the doctor has me taking the T4 free to rule that out. I am so annoyed that she didn't just order that test first KNOWING that I have a history AND I have higher levels of estrogen in my body. I hate getting my blood taken, not to mention the money.
I know the test came back abnormal because of BF...I think I should change doctors. What to you think? Isn't that common sense?

Thanks for reading~

Re: Would you be annoyed at my doctor?

Most doctors, certainly not just yours, don't have a clue that the free hormone tests - both FT4 and FT3 - are the best indicators of what a thyroid gland is doing.
Since I had a doctor who actually refused to do a basic screening TSH when I requested it, I personally wouldn't be too annoyed by one who was willing to test but mistakenly did the less revealing of two available.

Just curious, were you tested because you had symptoms, or was it the doctor's idea to test on her own?

No i would not be mad, I have a PCP and a Endo who will not do Free T3 or T4 tests so I would be glad to have a Endo that would do them. It almost sounds like she may have studied up some after reviewing your case (breastfeeding) That is a sign of a good Doc.
