I can't answer your questions directly, because I no longer take Cortef; but I can share my experience with it. I took it for only one month, because in my case, it didn't seem to make a difference. The complete discussion can be found at

You'll probably have more questions after you read that. If you visit the Addison's Disease board, Chrisjg hangs out there. He knows boatloads about the interplay between all the hormones and can probably provide more answers if you get too few on this board.
