Angry Eating Crow-Feathers Flyin-Utterly fed up with Drs !

I just wanted to say that I regret having put my confidence in all the education that doctors have, because I have come to the conclusion that mine is utterly useless !

I used to read this forum and feel shocked by all the negative second guessing of posters about their doctors, and the number of people who play doctor with themselves and others, but today I am back to eat some major crow.

I wont bother to bore you with the whole long story, but my doctor is a moron. I will be getting another one, one of these days, so that I can keep my levels monitored, but from now on it's my decision how much levoxyl I take. It's easy enough to buy it without the Dr's script these days and I am taking things into my own hands.

I already feel better just knowing that I am going to be properly taken care of ...by ME!

My TSH kept climbing, ( 13.5 at last blood test) my T4 & T3 are always in the low end of normal, not even hitting the halfway point. I tell him I am freezing with a body temp of 97ish, hair still falling out, skin cracking off, fatigue that just cost me to have to change jobs, eyes so dry I can't see any more and the moron says " well I dont know what it is, but it isn't from your thyroid levels". GOD SHOOT me now, I've paid this man a ton of money and this is what I get.

<deep breath>

So I doubled my dose to a whopping 50mcgs. Thanks to the little old man in India that sent it to me. Sheesh I am so mad right now.

Re: Eating Crow-Feathers Flyin-Utterly fed up with Drs !

I understand your frustration.I have spent thousands of dollars i don't have trying to find a decent MD who would listen,Was treated for high blood pressure which has since been resolved after taking westhroid. I was hospitalized february 1st had heart catheterization which showed no blockages but a prolapsed mitral valve, The doctor had me so dehydrated that my blood was like motor oil and my heart had trouble pumping it. Everytime i woud go to her and tell her something was wrong she said give it some time. I was taking inderall and hydrochlorathiazide for blood pressure which slowed my heart down to 46 beats per minute which said was nothing to worry about. I was only 40 years old and I was on deaths door.To make a long story short, she never did listen to me I am on doctor number 7 my credit cards are maxxed out and have lost faith in their training.I have an elderly friend who took me to see a MD who is alsa a naturopathic doctor and he saved my life. My hair was like straw eyebrows and pubic hair had fallen out my muscles had turned to jelly my skin was dry and looked older than my years my periods had been heavy and i had numerous miscarriages with one living child named Evan who will be 17 this fall.I believe I had been suffering from hypo for many years but with a normal TSH NO doctor would listen until my friend took me to the naturopathic doctor. He prescribed 2 westhroid pills a day and said take it the rest of my life.I am feeling so much better now. I am off all other medication and the depression is gone. I am very grateful AND I GIVE GOD THE GLORY for leading me to this doctor. I pray that he will lead you to the right one. Dont give up but dont waste your time and money on the morons,See a natural medicine doctor or better yet call around and see who prescribes the dessicated pig thyroid. I wish you the best. Susan

Re: Eating Crow-Feathers Flyin-Utterly fed up with Drs !

Im in the same boat. I am about to start self-medicating as well. Now just to get my doctor to let me monitor myown hormone levels.

And no pubic hair isn't that bad. I'm a guy and the only place I am losing hair is on my head and eyebrows... and Im 23!

Glad you feel better Pete. And good luck to you, Lydiia.

This is motivating me to open up my own doctor's office and lab for the tests.

Re: Eating Crow-Feathers Flyin-Utterly fed up with Drs !

Same story for me---except it took me 15 years of conventional doctoring to find a holistic Dr that didn't think I was crazy. I had every part of my body ct scanned, mri'd, bloodworked, examined, etc. I had prescriptions for xanax, propranalol, zoloft, prozac, prevacid, propulsid, a blood pressure pill, a pill to slow my heartrate down, a pill for this and that, and a pill to help THAT pill. That's a conventional Dr for ya. Give ya a pill for whatever ache and pain you have instead of trying to FIX the problem in the first place. I can't even begin to tell you the things I've been diagnosed with by conventional Drs who are just guessing and used me as a guinea pig for any new drug that was on the market.

Like I posted before---I was told that I had blood and protein in my urine for years and years. I saw 3 specialists about it and I ended up on a blood pressure pill because I was a diabetic according to them and that's what was causing the blood and protein. My holistic Dr did ONE test and said I have low circulation in my kidneys. I'm also not a diabetic. I was put on a kidney supplement and things are fine and dandy. Amazing what a few herbs can do versus a blood pressure pill with 52 side effects.

I might take 40 supplements a day now---but at least I know these pills are getting my body back to normal and not just covering up the problem.

A friend of mine sees my same Dr and has now gone back to nursing school and will graduate next week. Her plans are to sit through all of this "conventional schooling" and then go work for a holisitic Dr where she can do some good in the world. I told her I'd love to work in her office someday---because it really is whole-body healing.

Lydiia---I too have dry eyes (but from Lasik surgery). The surgeon told me to take flax oil capsules 1000 mg twice a day and it has helped me.

Sadfreek's right--the loss of pubic hair isn't so bad---it's just one less place you have to maintain Besides thinning of hair (I'm talking on my head now) and the loss of eyebrow hair (1/3 of it on the end), I have grey hair problem. I've been grey since I was 21. Not a fun thing.

Sadfreek--did you know you can do testing of your thyroid by yourself? I mean get the name of a reputable place and mail your own specimens in? I did my Cortisol Saliva test by myself. I had to put a swab of cotton (reminded me of a tampon) HA HA under my tongue 4 times for 1 day and put them into glass vials and mail them out. The results came back to me within a week or so. You can then take those results to your Dr (or a dr that will hopefully help you).

This is a world of non-believers in holistic medicine because it's not normal in our society today. But how do you think medicine was done a gazillion years ago? With herbs. People nowadays are used to getting a pill and feeling better the next day-----supplements take longer to work, but it's a natural remedy. I wish you all could move to PA so we could go on a field trip to my Dr

That is so true. Healthcheck USA is a good site to go to. I did my last thyroid testing through them and it was very easy and not that expensive. You order the test(s) you need on line, they send you the paper work and the address to the lab you need to go to. You go and get your blood taken and they send you the results. They even sent me my results on line before I got it in the mail.

At 25mcgs no wonder your TSH is climbing. 50mcgs is still a low dose. Find another doctor that will listen to you and make you feel better!

Re: Eating Crow-Feathers Flyin-Utterly fed up with Drs !

I can understand that you are so tired of feeling tired. If you are kept hypo, that would be more money for cholesterol, high bloodpressure, and antidepressant medicine. Big money for someone.

They finally decided to give me a little 25mcgs. of levothyroxine. That was not going to help me one bit, when I have seen people start out with 100mcgs.

I have learned enough to be my own doctor. Because nobody knows how I feel but me. And I don't care what anyone thinks.

I did not know you could do the tests by yourself. D*****atly something I am going to look at after my next fight with the doctor...which will be a week or so.

I also couldn't get my doctor to do a cortisol saliva test either. Rediculous!

Can't say I relate to the tampon thing... Im a guy...and proud to be!
(seems like 95% of the postees on here are female?)

Is the home test (thyroid and cortisol) covered under insurance? How much does it run anyhow? Thanks for the info!

Re: Eating Crow-Feathers Flyin-Utterly fed up with Drs !

I used Diagnos-Techs, Inc. from the state of Washington. My Dr gave me the test kit, but I'm sure you could call and get one sent to you yourself.

Save a LOT of that fired-up energy you're gonna use on your Dr next week and spend it on yourself. Try to find another Dr (holistic/homeopath/natural) if you can) and work on getting some of these tests done that you want. You've gotta find a Dr that treats by symptoms rather than numbers on a paper.

If you get the saliva test done, you'll understand the tampon thing real quick even if you are a guy. It's NASTY!

The test costs $99 and it was not covered by my insurance. I would assume when you self-test no insurance will cover it---but I could be wrong. Nothing is covered at my holistic Dr's office, but I don't care----I'd rather give them the money because they help me. They don't just keep sending me for unnecessary xrays, scans and bloodwork to keep the hospital workers in business, like my regular Drs tended to do.

Good luck and don't give up. Definitely don't take any crap from your Dr. If he/she won't listen to your needs or how you feel----stand up and tell him/her they're fired and walk out. Don't put up with their nonsense---trust me, there are Drs out there that will help you, you just have to take the time to find one.

Chin up, ok??

Re: Eating Crow-Feathers Flyin-Utterly fed up with Drs !

Gosh I don't know you but I sure feel for you though.. I was just dx'd hyperthyroid but not new to this disease lots a family members with thyroid disease all Hypo though I am the only hyperthyroid one in the family. My father died last june from cancer that started in his thyroid and spread through his body he was never treated until it was to late. His doc just dismissed him. It wasn't just the doc's fault though he drank so much that having to be forced into detox scared him I think and he didn't go for regular check ups. I feel as if I have gotten lucky *fingers crossed* my MD is Hypothyroid but started out hyperthyroid so I feel hopefully she will be good at treating me. Plus I have been seeing here for 16 years so we have a good relationship I have asthma and MS so she see's me often.
Anyway I wish you the best I hope you get better real soon...
