I just found out out that my cholesterol is 293!!! I'm freaking out! I'm 5'3 and weigh 155 lbs. I don't eat a lot of fat! I was recently diagnosed with hypothyroidism (I believe I have Hashimotos) and I think I've been dealing with it for a very long time. Is there a link?? I'm scared that I'm going to have a heart attack.
I just now caught this post. When your thyroid levels fall into the range that is normal for you, the high cholesterol should resolve. The high cholesterol is from the slowing down of your metabolism. As you know, hypothyroidism will slow everything down.
I had a cholesterol of 304 one time because of hypothyroidism.
After my thyroidectomy, my cholesterol was 320!! After synthroid began it went down 60 points on its own. At that point, I had to go on Lovastatin and it is now 220. I haven't heard from the GP doctor yet about the cholesterol levels, he may want to increase my dosage of lovastatin. From what I hear, this is a very common problem with hypothyroidism.
We could be twins! I am 5'3" and 149 lbs and my cholesterol is 292....When I first started synthroid it was 277 and dropped all the way to 203 (without and diet/exercise or medication changes). Unfortunately, I started getting more nodules on my thyroid (i.e. synthroid not working as well as in the beginning) and things are amiss again - it certainly can be a long process!
