Studies have shown that selenium has the ability to lower TPO antibody titers. If you're having symptoms directly from a high antibody count (not everyone does), and if selenium is effective in lowering it (it doesn't always), then you may get some relief from taking it.
Otherwise, it's an essential nutrient that many people don't get enough of from their diet, and it can't hurt to take some. It has other antioxidant and cancer-fighting properties apart from its role in thyroid health. I take it for those reasons. It hasn't made an apparent difference in my thyroid disease.
