Anyone Taking Selenium? Is it working?

Hi Everyone....

I just started taking selenium two days ago. I wanted to know if anyone out there is taking it as well and if so, how much. Is it helping alleviate some of your symptoms? Thanks for your replies!

Mimi

Re: Anyone Taking Selenium? Is it working?

Studies have shown that selenium has the ability to lower TPO antibody titers. If you're having symptoms directly from a high antibody count (not everyone does), and if selenium is effective in lowering it (it doesn't always), then you may get some relief from taking it.
Otherwise, it's an essential nutrient that many people don't get enough of from their diet, and it can't hurt to take some. It has other antioxidant and cancer-fighting properties apart from its role in thyroid health. I take it for those reasons. It hasn't made an apparent difference in my thyroid disease.

Re: Anyone Taking Selenium? Is it working?

Mimi,
I just posted to your other thread and hadn;t seen this one yet. I take 200mgs a day. use extra sun screen as there have been some reports that it can increase your risk for some types of skin cancer.

I did notice a change when I began taking it, but it did take about 3 weeks. Also my antibodies went way down.

Best of luck.

Karen

Re: Anyone Taking Selenium? Is it working?

I'm taking a supplement called Thyroid & L-Tyrosine Complex. It has Selenium in it. Either it is making me feel much better, or I'm feeling much better for other reasons, not sure which. I also stopped drinking tap water and started drinking bottled water. I've had a lot more energy lately.
