How Well Do You Sleep when You're Hypo?

I sleep better when I'm on a "good dose"of thyroid. When I'm low on thyroid and feeling pretty hypo, I go to sleep for about two hours and then wake up and can't go back to sleep for at least three hours.
What's really bugging me is that I'm on a prescription sleeping pill----and it doesn't seem to help at all. Anyone else?

Re: How Well Do You Sleep when You're Hypo?

Well, the funny thing with me is that when I started Synthroid and like many I went a bit more hypo to start I had a sleeping problem It was like I would go or almost go to sleep and then startle awake again....and I do this over and over all night. Now, everytime I up my meds and get a bit more hypo it happens again....very bothersome! Have you tried melatonin? (sp)

Re: How Well Do You Sleep when You're Hypo?

Yeah, I used melatonin in the past and it helped----but about four months ago, I hit the "magic" dose---and I was on a sleep/wake schedule that was as accurate as a swiss watch. I kind of "switched off" at 10:00, I was asleep by 10:30 and I got up each morning at exactly 6:30. I was the happiest person in the world---until the dang doctor saw the latest labs and changed my dose again.

Yeah, I've used melatonin and it worked well, but about four months ago, I hit on the right dose of Armour---and I went to bed at 10 and I was up at 6:30. Didn't wake up during the night, and I was full of energy for the day.

Re: How Well Do You Sleep when You're Hypo?

I don't usually sleep very good - but sometimes I do ok simply because I'm so exhausted.

waking up tired after 7 hours, or 13 hours stinks. I get tired of people saying "well you can get tired from getting too much sleep you know.." Gosh, wouldn't THAT be nice. Getting too much sleep.
