Several months ago I noticed a knot that was growing in my throat. I noticed it felt like it would shrink down for a few days and then be back the size of a golfball the next. My mother has a goiter and nodules and her sister also has it and they both take medication if I am not mistaking. I woke up this morning and it feels very big and enlarged and is tender. I can feel in my throat that their is something there but I just don't know what it is. I have a doctor's appointment scheduled for Friday that I am going to get them to check my thyroid level and to feel of the knot. I don't really notice any symptoms of just it being tender some days and somedays feeling like its shrunk and then enlarged the next. Does anyone have any ideas of what it could be?
Everything you report sounds like thyroid disease. I don't mean to sound rude---but I hope it's still there when you see the doctor. I hate it when I complain about something and when I show up, it's disappeared.
Thank you for answering my post. Doesn't Thyroid disease have several things listed under for it for example goiters, tumors, hypo and hyper, isn't that all considered thyroid disease? I will be so ready to go to the doctor tomorrow so I can find out what this huge knot in my throat is and hopefully get some medications to treat it. What ist he likelyhood of it being cancerous with someone with the age of 24?
Can you feel it on the outside or just when you swallow? I just posted about having trouble swallowing. You could have a nodule or a goiter.
I know it's hard, but try not to worry about cancer at this point. From what I understand, even a smal nodule can be uncomfortable.
Hoping you are better soon.
I can feel it on the outside and also feel it on the inside. I haven't had any problems not being able to breathe with it although when I tilt my head down or when I lay down in bed I can feel it there and its a very uncomfortable feeling. My mother has nodules and a goiter both and they didn't come back cancerous. It's odd though when I do breathe I can feel it just sitting there.
