off the wall ?

I have been dealing with a troublesome tongue problem for 3 months now and am getting very frustrated. A few months ago my thyroid swelled up to the point where I was having troubles swallowing. After tests I was diagnosed with Hashi's. A couple weeks after the initial swelling, I started to have pain underneath my tongue and it has persisted ever since. Does anyone have any idea if my thyroid could be pressing on something internally and causing this pain. The only other test I've had done besides blood work is an ultrasound and I don't know if that shows anything internally. Let me know your thoughts on this.

Re: off the wall ?

You can have sub sternal goiters that grow in all sorts of directions. I'd call the doctor and let him/her know what's going on. It could be thyroid related or it could be something totally different. Pain is the body's way of saying there is a problem. If your doctor blows you off, I'd go see an Ear Nost and Throat specialist.
I nearly choked to death on a turkey sandwhich while going through a hypo stage. Ended up in ER where they diagnosed dysphagia (trouble swallowing), but I've learned that the most common thing hypothyroid sufferers choke on is breads and meats.
Good luck.

Re: off the wall ?

To those of you who are interested: you know I have been having issues with my tongue for the last couple months since I was diagnosed with Hashi's. I just had a visit with the ENT today and he suspects a thyroglossal duct cyst. I have a lump in the midline of my neck, that I thought was a swollen lymph node, turns out it might be a cyst that could be attached to the base of my tongue. Which would be why I'm having such pain. I am to have a CT scan in the next week and I'll let you know what I find out.
