Hypothyroidism and Infertility

Hi! I'm new to the Board and I was wondering if there's anyone out there that was diagnosed with hypot during an infertility blood check. I'm not on my Rx yet so I can have a thyroid scan next week but here are my labs

TSH 6.518 (.3-3)
T4 (Thyroxine) 9.8 (4.5-12)
T3 uptake 26 (24-39)
free thyroxine index 2.5 (1.2-4.9)
antibodies (pending)

Cholesterol total 212 LDL 146
My BMI is 25

Symtoms: cycle length 20 days (9/20 bleeding), infertility, generalized fatigue, poor focus and weight gain (10 pounds), occasional cold intolerance (I didn't notice until I read the list of symptoms) since about 1 year ago

Anyone have a similar story?...is it likely that once I'm treated I could conceive on my own or is this an unlikely cause of my infertility problems (i know my problem is not severe...is it severe enough to keep me from ovulating?)

Re: Hypothyroidism and Infertility

I've heard that hypothyroidism is one of the most common, and most overlooked causes of infertility. It throws the endocreine system off balance and prevents ovulation. Sperm production can also be thrown out of whack.
Everyone's different---but your thyroid needs to be in good working order for the egg to be fertilized and for it's development.
It's great your doctor recognized the possibility of an underactive thyroid.

Re: Hypothyroidism and Infertility

thanks for responding, I like my OB-gyn he's very open to "teamwork approach" even though he isn't an infertility specialist but he's open to suggestions and has helped 2 of my other friends concieve. We are going to hold out on any more infertility testing until my TSH is down for a while, since my insurance covers nothing regarding infertility.

I'm glad to hear you like your ob-gyn, and that he's helped people you know to concieve. I hope things go well for you. It sounds like you've got a good doctor.
