Question How long til it works?

I've got hypo. I've only been on my meds for about 3 weeks now, but I've not noticed any change at all.

Can anyone give me a ballpark as to how long it can take to feel better? I've got an appointment end of October for another blood test to see if my dosage needs tweaking, if that helps. And I'm on a generic form or Synthroid called Levothyroxine, 50mcgs.

Thanks!!!

Re: How long til it works?

Amy,
You might not notice much difference on such a low dose. I would think that you are going to have an increase or two to start noticing things changing. It is a slow process, best of luck,
Karen

It can be really slow for some people--- I usally felt a dosage increase at about 3.5 weeks, but sometimes it can take 6 weeks.

Re: How long til it works?

I was diagnosed as bein hypo at the beginning of june and only just starting to feel better now. I still have some good and not so good days. I think it may also depend on how hypo you are when you start on the meds too.
good luck and hope you feel better real soon

Hi Amy,
I too was just recently diagnosed. I hurt and wish it would hurry up and start working!
We will just have to hang in there - take our meds, keep our appointments and let our Dr.s know how we feel.
Best wishes that we both feel better soon!

Re: How long til it works?

How inside a half hour? I've heard people says weeks but for me I can tell the difference almost immediately.

From the other comments here, people are very different. When I'm low some symptoms are:

1. Sleep. Too much.

2. grouchy

3. garbled speech

4. Achy muscles, joints.

5. Lack of joy, enthusiasm.

I take what you take only a heck of a lot more. I am a 200lb male on total thyroid replacement and I take 188mcg of t4 and 9mcg of t3 every day, split half in the morning and half in the evening and always after a meal. I found that taking the t3 before a meal just made it too difficult for me to feel balanced/normal.

Being slightly too high or slightly too low feels just about the same to me. You have to find your proper balance. Good luck.

Re: How long til it works?

Ok, so it takes a bit to work. Is it normal then for symptoms to become worse? I actually feel worse since starting my meds than before. (sigh). Maybe my body is just trying to adjust. (sigh)
